What It Costs For a Residential Wind Turbine

Have you had the thought that you'd like to put the wind to work for you, generating electricity for your home with a wind turbine? I've come across an analysis on how much it would really cost you to erect a residential wind turbine. The article gives some interesting stats on electricity use in the USA, including "the average household uses over 10,000 kilowatt hours of electricity each year", and "in 2007, the average cost for electricity from the utility grid was about 10.7ยข per kilowatt hour".

With electricity usage unlikely to go down in the future, it is an attractive alternative that will help you decrease your utility bills and lower your carbon footprint. Of course there are many considerations you need to take into account to see if a wind turbine system will work for you, such as your local wind resources and local government codes. You'll also want to confirm that ...

Diverting Construction Waste

Construction waste is a huge problem, with most of it going into landfills, increasing the burden on landfill loading and operation. Waste from sources such as solvents or chemically treated wood can result in soil and water pollution. A new article from Buildings.com has released new stats on just how big the problem is. On a national scale, total building-related construction and demolition waste is estimated to be 135.5 million tons- representing 30 percent, the largest single source in the waste stream.

Many materials can be recycled directly into the same product for re-use. Others can be reconstituted into other products. The main obstacle in recycling, though, is that recycling requires reprocessing that is not usually economically feasible unless a facility using recycled resources is located near the material source. But there are steps that can be taken for waste-reduction.
