Green Choice Flooring displayed their bamboo and green flooring products at the 2008 Midwest Builder’s Show. They offer a variety of bamboo products, along with unconventional choices such as “Enito” Palm wood and mulberry flooring. Palm wood’s green attributes come from being recycled from aged coconut trees. When the coconut tree reaches the age of 60-70 years, it stops producing fruit, and is often burned to make way for new palms. Since it has been discovered that palm wood flooring can be produced from the richest and hardest part of the tree, a fledgling secondary market has been developing for this product. As the rainforests continue to be harvested, palm wood has been an over-looked resource that is becoming recognized as a valuable building alternative. Mulberry flooring is the newest addition to the Green Choice line, and is another recycled product. When the aged mulberry bush stops producing fruit, the trees are usually burned. Recently, this wood has been manufactured into the gorgeous flooring products that can be seen in the video below. Steve Vander Weide, a representative for Green Choice, discussed the attributes of their sustainable flooring products. I also spoke with Charlie Krupka of FloorHeat Radiant Heating Systems, about his company's EasyFloor Radiant System. The EasyFloor system incorporates reflective foil for a radiant barrier, modular interlocking plastic grids that allow for a symmetrical tubing pattern over the entire floor area, aluminum heat transfer plates that direct heat energy into the thermal mass and oxygen-barrier pexalpex tubing. In the video below, Charlie describes FloorHeat's radiant heating system in further detail. For more information about FloorHeat, visit their website at www.floorheatcompany.com.
