VIDEO: RealBio- Plant Based Foam For the Future
Posted by: Jamie 6/17/2008 2:26 PM

As demand increases for furniture made with sustainable materials, companies are producing more innovative materials to meet that demand. Realform Technologies has invented Realbio, a plant-based polyurethane product that offers today's highest green content levels available in the molded foam product category. In the video, Paolo Marini with RealForm Technologies, describes the Realbio product and how it is the first mass production ready, plant seed-based polyurethane molded foam solution for contract seating applications on the market.

In addition to the introduction of Realbio, Realform has implemented a recycling program based on Circular Manufacturing philosophy. Realform recycles all of its components that are delivered to their manufacturing facility for the production of foam products. In this way, they not only divert their foam, but also the fabric, metals and plastics that would otherwise be destined for the landfill. Because all base materials are sent to recyclers, unused components are converted into new material, thereby extending their useful life.

The company believes that the ideal situation would be having a strict circular manufacturing society. Until such time that recycling technology advances and monetary constraints are removed, Realform is doing everything in its part to ensure that the footprint left by the company is as small as possible.

While this product is currently marketed for commercial applications, I felt this would be of interest to GBT readers. We all want more sustainable furniture, and RealBio is a big step in the right direction. For more information about the RealBio product, visit: http://www.foamforthefuture.com.
