I see your point - strange design. Somewhere there needs to be an exhaust duct and without some type of energy recovery (say a compressor based system), this is dumping cool air to the outside.

I just reminded a client in Minnetonka - it pays to focus on the major load. Like Canada, Minnesota has many times the heating hours than cooling. Why compromise the main load for the lesser?
