Hello, Are there any manufacturers who offer ductless heating/cooling units to be used with geothermal sources? There are a number of reasons why I prefer ductless, the most important being the avoidance of allergen (dust) reservoirs in the form of ductwork. Zoning, cost of installation and energy efficiency are distant secondary pluses of ductless systems for me. Ask yourself, when was the last time your parents had they're ducts cleaned. In any case, ideally, I think a refrigerant-filled geothermal ground loop could be easily connected to one of the many ductless heating/cooling systems on the market. I just don't know who's doing it. Thanks in advance. Donald

I just spoke with Mitsubishi about there City Multi unit yesterday. I'm suppose to get more info today but they can connect their water series units to connect to a GX water loop system. I'll post more info when I receive it but Mitsubishi told me that it was possible. We're looking at using it on a small commercial 8-ton application.

Some Manufacturers make console units which are ductless.

Well, that's intriguing news, Dan. I will be very, very interested in learning what you find out. In fact, I'm going to contact a few of these manufacturers (LG, Waterfurnace, Climatemaster, etc.) as well. Thanks a bunch. Donald

Hey Geodean, This is the only unit I've seen advertised for a "ductless" purpose amongst the geothermal big-boy companies. The only problem is that this console unit is floor-based. I'm looking for one that can be wall- or ceiling-mounted. Of course, if Climatemaster can contract out to have some company make these "console" units for them (I'm assuming Climatemaster doesn't actually manufacture the "Console"), then I'm sure a wall or ceiling unit can just as easily be manufactured. I will have to look into it. Though I don't want to do it, I will go ductless before going Geothermal for reasons previously stated. On the other hand, I have no problem dropping 20K to 50K, whatever it costs, to have both, so long as I know the system is reliable (i.e. 15-20 years of good service). Summer's approachin' so I'll have to find a solution soon. Thanks, Donald

check out the mitsubishi web site and find a diamond dealer near you as opposed to waiting for dan

I am currently involved with a Daikin VRVW2 system in a large residential home. 30 tons of closed loop using wall, ducted and concealed units. Most want return water above 6o degrees, but Daikin has come out with an upgrade for return water as low as 25 degrees. Mitsu and LG also have water cooled units.

Yes, it appears from my own cursory research that Mitsubishi makes a really good product. When it comes to ductless, the Japanese companies certainly excel. I'm pursuin' that lead for sure.

Geothermalman, 30 tons. Wow, that is a lot, I believe. Anyway, would you humor (and educate) me for a moment. Which units from Daikin AC are you using, SPECIFICALLY, (e.g., FXAQ), for use with the geothermal loops? Do the Daikin units connect directly to geothermal loops or do you need to use an intermediary unit (e.g, the Envision Series Outdoor Split by Waterfurnace) before connecting to the Daikin wall-unit? IOW, the Daikin unit only plays the role of the air handler in a Waterfurnace Envision Series split. I know my ignorance is showing but I want to be crystal clear in my understanding of which bone connects to the... Thanks. Donald

Donald,

Sorry for the delay on the info, but I'm still waiting on the manufacturer (Mitsubishi) to email data. I will post when I hear more.
Thanks
Dan
