i plan on installing a climatemaster tt27 5 ton unit. i live in ohio with heavy wet clay soil. plan on using 3/4' pipe for loop field with a header using 1.25" 100ft. who much total loop sounds right to use. have a guy stating 4000" and another says 2600" is fine.  I thought 400-600. per ton was what u usually use. this is a hor. loop 7ft. deep.

I don't know where u are at in OH. So don't know if I can compare to mid MI.
Much depends on wether they are using 1, 2, 4, 6 pipe or slinkies.
Proximity between trenches and wether your soil is really wet or just damp all have impact as well.

Horrible situation. I was excavating my bathroom floor and broke one of the plastic tubes that are part of the floor heating system. Does anyone know how I can mend it? It started leaking and I turned off the water main, but there are a couple of holes in it. Is there a repair kit for the tubing, could it be mended with copper fittings? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Zara

We are getting our tranquility 27 (064) 5 ton unit installed next week. We have very wet clay soil. I am located 1/2 between bloomington, IN and Indianapolis. The design for for 2in pipes to the mainifold. At that point, it breaks into 2, 300ft loops. They are using 6 pipe with 4 of them burried at 6ft and 2 at 3ft.

Our installer said that based on the soil we have we could probably get away with 200ft loops. We decided to go with the bigger loop. Our loop field is actually being run through the forrest next to our house.

Ok, so you are not using 4000 feet of loops (3600 is closer). 150' of trench/ton/6 pipe is common in mid MI and real overkill there. Wont hurt anything but is not automatically a good thing (more pump wear, more exposure to damage, more expensive to install). What configuration was your other bidder using (slinkies, 6 pipe)? I have to wonder if your installer has any product confidence his 200' of loops is just shy of the other guy's.
Based soley on the information before me I would have to guess that (again if we're talking 6 pipe) the installer you didn't hire is more expert than the one who throws pipe at a project just 'cause.

In my case, the local water furance dealer who has the geo accreditation, said just to do vertical wells, this is the same one who didn't do an official heat and cooling load.
