I've met a consumer on another forum with an ESES system that is not performing well.
I noticed first that his return air is 10X24 for a 5 ton. There is also no dumper for the 3 zones. I've gleened a few other things, but getting answers to specific questions is often difficult.
The homeowner doesn't know, the installer insists it's a technology problem and the license holder/engineer doesn't have a lot of data.
I can't even get a start up sheet.
I think the time may come, shortly, to suggest an independant contractor to the homeowner, so.....
Does anybody know a DX expert in the Boston area?

I cant offer any names ( a little north for me ) but I would say a duct expert would be a good place to start ( likely much cheaper as well ) I do vaguely remember Allenergysystems was a Boston area guy could be wrong though

and while I disagreed with him on many levels and he hasn't posted here or there in a while its better then nothing

dump aside if that return size is right , well you know

with DX I would even settle for a good air source guy down the road over the "geo guy " they got now

10x24 for 1500 cfm isnt terrible
It sounds like there are dampers installed. I would start by leaving them open and see how the system responds.
This is my biggest issue with these large dx systems. They arent good under part loading.
At least with a water system a buffer tank can be added.

No 10X24 wouldn't be terrible for 1500 CFM, but this 5 ton wants 400 cfm/ton. Code also happens to be 360 sq".
I think the problem here is much more than air flow, but I do agree with you on the dampers and had suggested they leave them open for further testing and simply disconnect the R/A boot for test purposes (draw from the unfinished basement).
I have spoken with the H/O, the license holder, the installer and a former Geo Direct distributor/manufacturer.
The last info I asked for (essentially start-up data) was not provided. Hopefully that means they found the problem.
