I will be doing a 2000 sq foot ranch in about a month. It will be icf construciton from footing to eave. The home will have radiant heat in basement as well as first floor. The home will have geothermal as well. The footing will be about 8 to 9' below grade. In the past I have run the earthloop thru the wall above the footing. Do any of you pros see an issue with running the earthloop below the footing? Thanks in advance!

We run under footings sometimes. You need to allow for the loop freezing the dirt around the pipe so as not to heave your footing. Bed in gravel so as to avoid heaving.

Thanks Dean,......that's what I was thinking.  We would like to do all the excavation in one shot. Going under the footing would work best for us. I also like the ideal of simplifying the waterproofing as well.

Thanks again!

Buntly,

In new construction we always go under the footings. We insulate the pipes all the way under the slab and several feet outside the foundation.

Sprayfoam the roof and that house might be able to be heated with a candle or two.

Does pipe insulation suffice to keep adjacent dirt from freezing? I'd guess the effect would be lessened but not eliminated entirely.
Gravel bed sounds like good insurance.
