Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board

Google "Florida CILB"

If Egg subbed it all out, then I believe they would need a General or Building Contractor License.

If not so licensed, then it would seem to be a case of unlicensed contracting activity. The amounts of $ involved likely exceed threshold for felonious fraud or deception.

Along with Florida CILB, contact also the state attorney's office and / or the white collar crimes section of the county sheriff's office. Their initial response may be that it is a civil matter...maybe, maybe not. Be prepared to firmly advocate your position - all these government entitiies are overworked and underpaid. May need to lawyer up just to leverage proper response from authorities.

Obviously there are two or more sides to any story, but the fact that a sub has had to file a lien suggests something has gone way wrong.

Another resource, often overlooked, is your elected representatives. They get paid to help point you in the right direction.

Bergy makes a good point, although I would modify that to suggest the staff of the representatives. They are often good at navigating the byzantine bureaucracies of state and federal government.

YES!!! Steer clear of this man and his company!! My husband worked for him last year from April to the middle of August. They lied to us constantly and closed up shop and left town owing us 8 weeks worth of pay which equaled over $9,000!!! Not only that, they didn't pay our medical insurance and didn't tell us and we had to take our 2week old daughter to the ER and found out that day that our insurance had expired with not a word from them. Also, about two months after my husband quit, we received a phone call from a lawyer from BB&T bank searching for them. They were looking for a company vehicle to repo it and was told by Jay Egg that they had given it to us for back pay. The last I heard from that lawyer, he had packed up and moved to California with his brother if that helps. Another tip about this man is that his wife is in on the scam and she will use her maiden name too. It is Gail Richards and her father lives here in Florida his name is Kevin, but I don't believe he's in on the sacm, but maybe your attorney can use him as a means of contacting them.

Wow!

I was ripped off just a few hundred dollars about a year or so ago. I called my state's attorney general and they jumped all over them and I gots my money back. I would give them a call, it cost me nothing, and they were very prompt. It was the first time I ever had to do that, and I was quite impressed with my state. BTW I live in indiana.

How can someone or a company with such a bad Internet report have the ability to speak at a IGSHPA function???? I am very disappointed if all this true.

I pointed out that the picture he used in his article used CPVC for the DSH contrary to manufacturer's installation instructions and an unbuffered DSH. In fairness we only have a few disgruntleds in a multistate operation........hard to tell.

Single or multi state operation, what the difference? If the things I read are true then it's a absolute disgrace. Yes it is true that you'll generally read more negative reviews then positive reviews.

You are right, you do here more bad than good. Unfortunately, in this case, as far as our part, it is true. It's been two years and my husband has yet to be paid the more than $9,000 in back pay he's owed. We have documentation and correspondence that would nail him in court and tried to take legal action. But, our attorney basically quit on us because it was impossible to find him. He has perfected the art of disappearing until the heat dies down. What amazes me though is how this man can do all these bad things and yet have what is seemingly an untarnished reputation. We've faced the fact we'll probably never see our money, but I sure would like to find a way to stop him from harming anyone else. Wrong is wrong, no matter how nice the person seem to be

Unfortunately, this is an all too common practice and occurrence. Many HVAC companies setup operations in a state that does NOT have any or only minimal HVAC licensing requirements and contractor regulations. Then these companies operate outside this state via internet marketing WITHOUT getting licensed in the states they solicit customers. If a clueless, ignorant customer from another state hires this company, they won’t receive very much assistance from their state when they have a problem with this company. Bottom line, customers really need to understand their state’s HVAC licensing requirements and associated contractor regulations, and apply due diligence to protect their own interests. This link shows current state HVAC licensing requirements:

Dan it is not that multi state changes it. My point was "scale" of operation. I'm certainly not apologizing for anyone who cheats customers and subs, however if this outfit has hundreds or thousands of installations, 3 complaints on the internet is smallish. I mentioned the complaints on Linkedin where Jay is participating in the conversation and he clearly does not wish to respond.

Joe (Hardin),
Thanks for sharing the LinkedIn link. I, like Coca Cola Girl, have trouble seeing Mr. Egg in a position of leadership in any industry. Although she and I may be among the few Jay Egg naysayers, I think the difference in our situations is not that we're just unhappy customers. Everybody has some unhappy customers. The difference with us and some of the other negative reports is that for whatever reason, Jay Egg was willing to present his most sincere trustworthy self to us and then deliberately and knowingly lie and steal from us. Now, in my mind, I've given him the benefit of the doubt and assumed he made some bad business decisions, got himself in a financial bind, and we just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. I also know it's common in our society to not have to be accountable for a lot of the hurt we may cause others. As I've mentioned before, my main reason for ever starting this thread was to establish a find-able opinion that people should just be careful when doing business with him. If he was willing to hurt people before, he'll be willing to do it again. Hopefully not often. Hopefully only when he finds himself in a bind. But, he has demonstrated that he's willing to take the easy way out and let others pay for his mistakes.
I considered leaving a post on LinkedIn but decided against it. My purpose is not to follow Jay Egg around and try and make his life miserable. His life and his decisions will be judged some day just as mine will. When that time comes, I hope we both receive the grace we don't deserve.
I appreciate your previous feedback on this matter.
At some point I may open a thread to discuss some of the technical problems I have had and/or am having with my system. I'm kind of on my own to figure out how to solve problems since there is a scarcity of geothermal support in this area.
Clark Galbraith.

FWIW, my AO is NE Florida, Jacksonville area. I may be reasonably situated to debug your system, rotten eggs aside.

Just happened to come across Jay Egg's new book on Amazon. As I read the review from the guy that said he and his neighbor spent $750K with Egg, it reminded me of my thread on this forum. I also just had a guy out to work on a problem with my system who said he thought the install was terrible and the system design was markedly flawed. I know you guys consider us to be just a few disgruntled customers, but I hold to my conviction that this guy is dangerous. I am a christian, a father, a husband, have degree in engineering and am a doctor anesthesiologist. I don't have as much a problem getting up at 2am to go provide free care for a gang member with a knife wound as I do hearing people make excuses for Jay Egg.

I don't think there are many Egg fans on this site.
