Does anyone have a rough idea of how much more the Waterfurnace cupronickel heat exchanger option costs? (Specifically, I'm looking at a 4 ton Series 5, i.e., the 049 model.)

Does that option ever make sense for closed-loop systems?

Thanks.

Ah, thanks for the number.

So with a closed-loop system the probability of a copper heat exchanger corroding or failing is negligible? I.e., I'll have to replace the whole system before I have to replace the heat exchanger?

It's ALOT less likely to have a coil related failure on a closed loop system. I always recommend CN coils though, since original purge water and make up water are never perfect to begin with. It's a small price to pay upfront for the upgrade, then deal with bad coils later on. Dan

I've seen a closed loop unit fail. Years ago some of the guys here may remember my discussion on refrigerent in the brine and the possible complications.
