I have a ATP32U04 Thermostat, starting to get cooler here now I noticed that when the unit starts up it moves to second stage after 5 minutes and will satisfy in second stage.

This is not how it run last year or the year before, it would run in 1st stage for a lot longer then change to 2nd stage and de-stage when close to temp.

I have reset it to default, and turned off the breaker to the heat pump for 30 minutes and still have the problem.

We did have a thunderstorm a few weeks back that we had a couple of brown outs, but geo was not running at the time.

If I change the algorithm to Differential from Proportional integral it will stay in 1st stage unless it drops a couple degrees. So I could use that, but prefer the Proportional integral as it keeps my temp steady at 70 degrees.

Any ideas from Climate Master Installers? I searched the internet and found one person that solved it by reset and power off, I will attach a link.

Like to see if I can get any help here before calling the installer, don't think the thermostat is covered under the 10 year warranty.

Thanks

John

John. First if it is a Climatemaster product purchased with the heat pump then it is protected by the same warranty.
Second. It is possible that it isn't destaging because it inadvertantly reaches set point due to light load (mild weather).

Could be because of mild weather that it is not de-staging. Just does not seem right that it goes to stage 2 after just 5 minutes.
I will give the installer a call and see what they say.

Thanks

Depending on what the set up is sometimes mixing up the air intermittantly creates a temperature drop before things start to warm up. Depending on tightness of home I've seen 1 or even 2 degree drops when the blower kicks on.

Strange enough my 3 year old ClimateMaster is doing the exact same thing. I have it set for 67 and it will turn on stage 1 and run for between 30 seconds and 5 minutes then stage 2.

It has never done that before. I turned off the unit at the breaker for 2 days. It acted normal for a few days then started doing it again.

I think the tstat has a keep alive battery in it to maintain settings and time during a power outage. You might try removing the battery as well as shutting the power off. Just an idea.
