I have a 5ton climatemaster water to water open source standing water column(pump from bottom return to top) with a 500'well static 30' and was spec'd by the wholesaler to use a 1.5hp well pump. After educating myself on pumps, I removed this pump and installed a 1hp pump and reduced their seeting of 15gpm to 10gpm and saved 60$/mo. my question is.... I have read that I am pumping 10gpm at 50-60psi through my geo and only need a few psi for this application. that means im wasting money creating pressure when its not needed. Can an ECM pump save me money by reducing pressure for circulation of the geo and keeping pressure on the rest of the house? How is this accomplished? TIA

It is possible to have an ECM controller that would control pressure to say 15 psi while just the geo was operating and jump to 50 psi whenever there is any flow to the rest of the house. I don't know of one that does this.

Selecting/adjusting the well pump for 15 psi and adding a booster pump to get 50 psi is easy and inexpensive. With 30' static and 10 gpm, a 1/2 HP well pump is more than enough.

Thanks Jonr, I have read that the grundfos sq series will slow down and pump low pressure and speed up to produce high pressure ....but I don't know anything about them. was wondering if anyone here did.

xs - as a rule the SQ(E) is used with the Grundfos controller to maintain a constant pressure. If you set the pressure to 70# it will hold that pressure independent of the flow by speeding up or slowing down. The control box allows adjustment from 40 to 100#.
