I have a new thermostat (closed loop CM TEV 30) and was wondering what happens if power is lost for a day or more? There is not a battery backup, that I can detect. I heard it has a capacitor that keeps the settings for a few hours; THEN WHAT? If on vacation, what does the system do?

Do you have the communicating thermostat?
It should stay programmed regardless of how long power is out

What's a communicating thermostat? How could I tell if it is? New to all this, so I don't know much about it.

Here's a link to the Climatemaster brochure for the TE series:

Page four has info about the iGate controls and a  pic of the communicating thermostat.

Frank, I do have a comm. thermostat; model #iGate ATC32U01. SO this keeps the settings even if power fails for a day or two? I doesn't have a battery backup. Thanks, hank

Climatemaster spec says:
"Set points are permanently held in memory (no batteries used) and retained during power outages"

 http://www.climatemaster.com/geothermal-dealer/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Accessories-Product-Catalog.pdf
 (page 6)

So must be some sort of non volatile memory. I went with Ecobees so no direct experience here, but thinking about a communicating stat for data collection.

Your settings get programmed and stored just like a computer.
