We recently decided to use the GFX Technology Heat Exchanger System in Green LEED for Homes renovation/addition.  I am wondering if anybody here has any experience with the efficiency of this product.  Thanks in advance for any feedback.

We have one, well this is our second one actually. So I wold recommend them if you have the access and space to add it. The big key is to make sure the cold water enters the BOTTOM of the unit. On our first install they put cold at the top, the increase in water temp was about 15F, I re-plumbed it a week later myself to get cold at the bottom and saw about a 20F rise in incoming water. About a month later I went all out and plumbed the cold water line to the bathroom in after the GFX as well. I got the same 20F rise, but now the cold water on the shower was 20F warmer. Since we kept the water heater at 110F we usually had the water almost all the way hot to take a show, after I re-plumbed the cold line as well, we had it about right in the middle, since the cold was so much warmer.

In this house I don't have the cold plumbed after the GFX, the inspector said we couldn't run potable water through the unit and since that fed the sinks, so he said no. He didn't understand what the unit was or that it was essentially double walled. I plan to re-plumb this one soon.

Ours in plumed in front of the fist tank which is heater from the de-super heater from the geo, then that in turn feeds the main 50 gallon natural gas heater, which has run a total of 9 hours since we moved in 3 months ago.
