I ima close to completion on the first recognized Straw Bale building in Louisville, KY. This structure is a studio, and the size was chosen to ease the acceptance and permitting process for the building department, and the legalities one must face when gaining permits to build. Shortly, I hope to go to the next phase, and go residential as far as the design and the additional permits for electrical and plumbing (the studio is off the grin and uses solar powered L.E.D lighting, and rain captured cisterns.

I was hoping to gain any advice, or experience anyone her might have with the roadblocks, and issues I may face as this moves forward. Any Comments are much apperciated.

Thanks in advance.

Insuring it might be your most unexpected hurdle. You might contact a jurisdiction where a LOT of strawbale structures are constructed, like Taos New Mexico, and talk with a building official there - or a lending institution of merit there, and see if there wasn't a learning curve with literature that you can offer those who will eventually be the local KY. Best to you, Susan
