Hello,

We are having a home built for us that will have some level of energy savings certification that qualifies for a tax credit.  My question is -- who gets to take the credit, the builder or the buyer?  We aren't using a construction loan (the builder owns the building up until we buy it) but we do have a contract for the house.

Thanks,
Christopher.

The builder is the one who gets the tax credit, as the owner your limit is around $500.   I was shocked when my CPA told me.

The Green Building Talk web site has a section on the right side of the screen called NEWS, they have a recent article about the IRS rules on energy tax credits.
