Anyone heard anything about this type of siding? I just heard an add in the radio and sounds interesting, but I'm looking for information from anyone who has actually any experience with this type of product. Good? Bad? Not worth the price?

Thanks.

We have it, hard to tell if it actually does anything. My wife choose it becasue it is more regid then traditional siding, I said yes becasue it increased the overall R value. It does look better then the siding on our last house and seems more "solid".

I would tend to agree with Brock.
While the added insulation sounds good, the installation techniques for vinyl siding allows for relatively easy air movement in and around the siding panels. This tends to negate the insulation values. It does help to maintain straighter lines and therefore looks better, and is more 'solid' than regular siding. It is quiet a bit more expensive than regular vinyl, and therefore requires some serious thought before purchasing. You might also consider, as an option, the thicker '.50' lines of vinyl. Their added thickness makes them stronger, straighter, and more 'solid' than the thinner sidings, and they are usually less expensive than the insulated sidings.

Oh, one of the other advantages of the insulated siding was a noise reduction, although spray foam helps on that front as well.

As Wes said it cost more to install and our siding guy said if it wasn't installed correctly the added insulation value was pretty much worthless, he said most people don't install it correctly.

Thanks for the reply. Well, the cost of the siding made the choice for us. We're going with fiber-cement instead.
