Hello! Looks like an informative forum here. I'd like to introduce myself, Scott, living in Black Mountain, NC. Single male, late 30s. Parents live on .25acres and have a similar vacant lot next door. With my father, two houses have been deconstructed since November 2011. We have plenty of hardwood and pine flooring, joists and rafters from 2x6 to 2x12, 2x4s, stone, brick, hardwood wall paneling, dutch lap/german siding, int/ext wall paneling hardwood/pine and tongue-groove roof sheathing.
We'd like to submit a design for building permit in the next 60 days. Would like to build a barn with a tiny-apartment within. Started with tiny-house concept and expanded it to have a bldg that would allow constructing tiny-houses for resale. Want to leave room on property for a 18' square 3-story tower-style house in the future. Plan is to go-green on a tiny-apt and use the rest of the barn for project space/storage. Don't want to consume resources or spend resources unnecessarily; weather permits 10-months/year with no heating/cooling.
Currently, want to consider how to get inexpensive plans for a permit; whether there are suitable ways to build so that insulation and other essentials could be added to the barn if desired (for example if we wanted to sell the bldg for commercial use); how to go-green on the concrete slab (or other flooring option) in the workspace of the barn.
Thanks for reading! Going to be a blast of a project. Looking forward to reading and using these forums. |
