When using ductless mini splits, the only fresh air intake system that comes to mind that doesnt sacrifice indoor air quality is an HRV. Are there other filtered intake systems that compliment mini-splits that I'm unaware of? Also speaking of filtered intake in general, how effective are these systems at removing contaminants such as allergens and odors? As far as that goes, can any of them compare to the UV units that usually come with ducted systems?

Yes. Some of the units like Zender have excellent HEPA filtration systems available; with the others you can get "add-on" HEPA filters that can be installed on the ducts.

I could see UV for a evaporator coil. Does it accomplish anything elsewhere? Apparently it can work at the 1000 watt level.

Not really. And you have to keep the evaporator coil clean in the first place which is most of the battle right there.
