Maybe this has been discussed but what are the most orthodox ways to get one's PV wiring into the home.

I see 2 potential routes:

1. Down the roof and enter up under the eave/soffitt.

This would be uglier than method 2

2. Breach the roof with a grommeted "service entrance" (gray PVC periscope type of hardware).

Some may be squeamish about breaching the roof but it's done all the time for drain vents, etc...

The weather head is nice, but it might be a little unsightly depending on your installation. Also don't know if your installation will be considered high voltage or low voltage as far as code goes. I actually used one of those weather heads to enter 4 insulated flexible pipe sets for the hot water solar panels.

I have two pieces of 1" rigid metallic conduit coming up from a junction box in the house for the PV panels. They come up right under one end of the array. Since I have metal roofing, they are sealed to the roof with the standard silicone rubber boot with metal ring to screw the edges down. The wires into the conduit will get weatherproof fittings

From your combiner box run a conduit either emt or ridgid depending on local codes down thru a approved roof jack and then seal conduit to roof jack with sikaflex or silicone, roof mastic will also work.
