I'm researching windows for a house we plan to build in 2014 and visited a Serious dealer today.  He mentioned that Serious Windows had been sold.  I was able to find this online to verify it:

http://www.alpenhpp.com/alpen-high-performance-products-purchases-fiberglass-window-business-from-serious-energy-inc

Should this be a matter of concern for those of us who were looking into Serious windows?

Thanks.

I don't think it will matter with the sale. Companies change hands many times and never skip a beat. It depends on WHY it sold? Was it because of a financial shortfall issue to avoid bankruptcy? If it's a simple arms length transaction, I wouldn't worry about it.

Serious bought the old Alpen window company a few years ago. The man that owned Alpen has repurchased the company from the financial guys that started Serious. So its not a new owner, its the owner that started the business and designed the windows that we've known as Serious. We purchased one of the last runs of Serious windows - they had some issues, so Alpen is replacing them no questions asked. The dealer whom I bought from had worked with Alpen and has been very excited about the repurchase. So it should be a positive change.

Actually there is now two different companies. I talked to reps from both yesterday. Serious is still in business and makes high performance vinyl windows. I believe The glass is the same. Alpen uses Fiberglass frames, that they buy in Canada. It appears to be an amicable split, if you are on the Seriuos website there is a link for fiberglass framed windows that takes you to Alpens website.

I wouldn't choose parallel company as well. There are many good reviews about companies which are importing windows from Europe (egz. Germany). Schuco and Inoutic are well known for the performance and price balance. I ordered my windows from Intus Windows. But anyway, I would really recommend to choose a manufacturer from Europe, it might take longer time for delivery, but the quality an price balance is better.
