Yes, that's the dilemma, I want lots of windows on the wrong side of the house!  Obviously I'll make them all non operable.
Has anyone used the Hurd "Ultra R" triple film (heat mirror) units which claim center of glass r values between 10 (air filled) and 20 (krypton filled)?  The triple film IGU is 2" thick so they only support it in "direct set".  They rate vt at 0.49 which is a little low but probably a good sacrifice for the heat loss improvement.  I really wanted fiberglass frames but I could live with wood.

You can also look at the various ways of insulating them when you don't need to look through them.

Where did you find r values between 10 (air filled) and 20 (krypton filled)? I have never heard R values being more than 12 and it's for certified passive house window.

Those ultra-high R-value windows just utilize multiple layers of suspended films. What you lose is transparency, Solar Heat Gain and to some degree, longevity.
