Does anyone have any experience with Lepage Windows? I am looking at comparing Marvin, Loewen and Lepage. The windows are clad casements. Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks

yes. We installed three LePage clad wood triple glazed doors three years ago. We were checking a leak with a hose; seemed to be some water in the house; when the hose hit the sidelight, someone standing six feet away, inside, got very wet. So the weatherstripping is wanting. The cladding on one of the door panels is slipping down and sticking so the door was hard to open. Not fastened very well apparently. Those are two; there are more.

nothing personal but they are favored by high end architects around here. Have never heard any negatives.

Ron,

Be sure to Google "Loewen window complaints" to see what previous customers have to say.

I have had excellent service from Marvin in correcting small defects that made it out of the factory.  In one new home, Marvin replaced some of the windows because some of the glass in the casement windows had tiny black spots that could be seen only when looking up close.  Marvin gave the removed windows to a member of our crew that wanted to use them in a lake cabin.  My client appreciated the fast service.

For what it's worth, we've been very happy with the Loewen windows we installed 6 months ago. I can't comment on service, since there was absolutely nothing imperfect about what they delivered us.

Chris, which Loewen products did you use? Casements or double hung? Double or triple glaze? Any of their doors? Who was your dealer?

Thanks
Ron

Triple casements. Dealer is www.loewenvtnh.com in White River Jct. VT. An independent dealer who sells lots of Loewen but other brands of windows and doors as well. They've been terrific to deal with, including helping resolve problems with some non-Loewen doors.

We didn't have any doors in that first order but we have a door on order. Pricey but the doors in the showroom look really nice and there aren't many manufacturers who offer triple-pane in a door. This dealer did offer some lower price alternatives: Kohltech also had a triple-pane option.

We are going with clad casements. I am trying to decide between Loewen and Lepage if we go triple glaze. If we go double glaze I am leaning toward Marvin. I can not really justify triple glaze in my climate but the Loewen & Lepage windows are very nicely built.

We have a lot of windows, some very large and numerous camber tops. I know what you are saying about the triple glaze doors. We have a two and four section slider along with a terrace door.  I was surprised that even Lepage could not offer me a triple glazed door. It seems ridiculous to put in triple windows and have double doors. It kind of defeats the efficiency concept. The Loewen doors are very expensive. They are over twice the costs of the Marvin door. That is a lot to pay for one more pane of glass.

Not only is it a product selection but a company and dealer selection issue as well.  The product selection is pretty easy to calculate based on construction, performance and options. The company is easy to research. The local dealer who is your interface to the company becomes the wild card. I do believe the dealer is the key component. The Marvin regional rep here has been marvelous. The local Lepage dealer has just lost their ace window person. I knew I was in trouble when I had to explain the relationship of the u-value to the r-value for the new replacement salesman.  The Loewen dealer is about as arrogant as they come. They will get to you when they get to you.

How was the fit and finish of your windows? Any issues? Do you have any large casements? Would you order Loewen again? It sounds like you have a good dealer, that is imperative.

Sounds like your Marvin dealer might have already won your business. Although lack of knowledge on energy considerations might not be a show-stopper if you don't need their help figuring that out. It's just sad to support a business that isn't helping advance the field.

The fit and finish of our Loewen windows was perfect. More like fine furniture than a building component. The only issue was some that didn't operate smoothly because the installer got crud into the mechanism during the isntall, but he cleaned them out (no charge) and now they operate like a dream, including some giant 3' wide x 4.5' tall casements. We not only would buy them again, but we did place a second order--we had bought them for an addition, and weren't intially sure whether we'd replace 100% of the windows in the existing house. We went for 100%. 100% of the windows, and 100% of the money in my bank account. I'm sorry to hear that your dealer is arrogant--makes me feel really lucky that we have a good dealer who is competent, helpful and friendly.

I went with the Loewen  windows & doors. I definitely understand the 100% bank account statement. LOL
