I just got this question on my forum from a woman from the Chicago area.  Can anyone help out with it?

"I recently moved into a high rise condo building that is about 60 years old and is a landmark building. Windows are single pane, and cover all outside walls. Heat is hot water, old boilers and pipes running through all interior walls carrying hot water. Most residents complain about the building being too hot in the winter (we all have our own controls, but I never turn mine on - heat is just 'there'. Building is undergoing some expensive major rehabbing right now and management doesn't have time or money to research solutions - in fact, they say there are none. Individual solutions have been to sometimes turn on AC in the middle of winter. What have other buildings done?"

I don't know what budget they may have available to "fix" the building. There is a 21 century natural air conditioning system availbale now in the US. It is widely used and sucesful in Europe and now fully available in North America. It is better called bio-climatizing and takes care of all the problems mentioned. It uses water rather than air to cool and to heat. One installation and it takes care of both seasons. Retrofit is alwas more expensive than to build new due to the fact you have to demolish, cart away and star fresh. You can learn more going to www.bekausa.com

Thanks for the quick response!  I'll pass on the information and make sure I mention GreenBuildingTalk as my source and include a link back to this site when I respond.
