Hello

I am interested in learning about passive solar design. To that end I am looking for some good books to teach me what I need to know. I live in Manitoba Canada which is primarily heating dominated but in the summer requires lots of cooling too. Does anyone have any references to books that may be of use to me? (preferably not too technical)

Thank you

I would start with "The Solar House" by Daniel Chiras and the second book would be "The pasive solar house" by James Kachadorian From reading these two you can get a good idea of what you have to do to make it work If you are contemplating other solar stuff (hot water) try "Solar water heating" by bob ramlow Have fun Eric

The Independent Home by Michael Potts is a good one too, Though not as good as the other two mentioned. When you read these books pay special attention to your overhangs, and here is a quick tip for your south facing glass "Sungate ppg 500". High SHGC is the key.

The Passive solar design and construction handbook, by Steven Winter. A must read if your serious about building a solar home in a cold climate.

The Passive Solar Energy Book by Ed Mazria, 1979...old but has tons of basic thermodynamic principles that never change.
