All,
I'm trying to figure out what's best (as "everyone" I've talked to has a different opinion). Trying to accomplish energy efficiency without major condensation issues. Currently have
From Inside To Out: 1) R19 Inside 2x6 Cavity Spray Foam (either Open/Closed Cell in debate) 2) 0.5" OSB 3) 1" XPS or Thermax ISO (faced or unfaced with/without back grooves) 4) 2 ply Grade D Paper 5) Stucco (mesh wire + brown coat + final coat(s)).
This is in Colorado with 70F inside and ~40 humidity inside (via humidifier).
The debate seems to be: 1) Where to put the Grade D Paper and thus the drainage plain (either before or after the exterior insulation)? A) Is the Grade D paper enough? - If not, are there alternatives to furring strips (seems a bit heavy on labor)? 2) What Spray Foam to use on framed 2x6 cavities: A) closed cell which is semi-impermeable and thus not allowing for drying towards the inside of the house B) open cell foam which allows for drying towards inside but also possibly driving moisture in between the foam and OSB during winter months with interior relative humidity at 40% (?) 3) What to use on concrete basement walls (closed or open cell for same reasons as #2) if different from #2 4) Whether to use XPS or ISO and whether or not it should faced and/or grooved?
Would appreciate some insight on this - I've received very conflicting advice.
