Sum total of my experience - Designed, GCed and built my own home, hybrid - stick built & modular on FPSF. 2798 ft2 2 story, propane fired condensing HWH DIY designed and installed radiant heat in GF. $71.20/ft2 completely furnished and finished, 5Star plus eStar rated and NAHB Gold certified

I haven't seen any credible evidence that such a device has any noticeable effect. I have seen some good research on zinc ions in the water reducing hardness deposits.
Here
is a layman's version.
The well proven solution is a water softener.

There are some good reviews on Home Depot from verified buyers, but I remain skeptical. For something that has been on the market for so many years, one would think there would be a body of useful reviews - good and bad - from independent plumbers and users.
