I am planning to build a small dairy in Nova Scotia from Durisol R-28 blocks. Am wondering about the need for a vapour barrier, as although this material is supposed to breathe, humidity can be 90-95% on a regular basis in a dairy. Am also wondering about additional insulation (rigid or otherwise, trying to avoid EPS and XPS due to HBDC, a known toxin), around the whole exterior of the building, especially in cooler rooms (8-12 deg. celsius). Read other posts on this site related to building with Durisol, just wondering if anyone else has any insights. Or should I just give up the idea of building with Durisol and look at Nudura instead? Thanks!

Google " Fifth Town Artisan Cheese" and look at the factory that was built with Durisol years ago and was Platinum Leed rated. Not sure you are looking for that approach, but I'm sure you can learn from this project whether or not Durisol was the right choice. Call them and find out?
Most of the projects I've been involved with have Durisol without a vapour barrier (but still have an air barrier of course). No complaints to date - I have not built a barn with Durisol, but I know for a fact that are many, many dairy barns built in Southwestern Ontario that use Durisol specifically because of its properties for their milk houses (white washed, no mold, no walls sweating, etc.).
