We will be pouring our basement soon and our contractor wants to know if we want our breezeway included in icf or have it separate with standard concrete forms. If it is icf it will basically give us an 8 x 10 storage room (unheated) that bumps out from the basement with door in the basement. Either way he says he will connect the rebar from the icf basement to the breezeway. Is there plus or minus either way? Thanks, Steve

Do you already have a cold storage? I think it would be to your advantage to do so either conventional or icf. However, if you do so it would have to be monolitique pour meaning breezway will be part of the house to eliminate all water intrusion posibilities. I'm not sure but putting in a floor or filling cavity will probably be same $.
Cheers!

Thanks. I will make sure it is part of the house. He said he would do it for just the price of the icf blocks and no extra for the cement floor.

Well then full ahead!
Don't forget to install your air vents, beforehand you pour, if it is a cold storage.
Cheers!

Here's an idea that you might be interested in. Depending on the orientation of your garage, you canuse the area under you breezeway as a second access to your basement. All you have to do is put a stairwell up into the garage.
I did this on my house and I love it. Mine is just a 4' wide x 10' long hall with concrete steps to the garage. I used metal decking and poured the walls and top at the same time, steps came later. In the garage the stairway looks like a closet over in one corner.
This gives me a way to take large, bulky items to the basement without having to go around corners. Here is a pic of it when I was stacking the basement walls.

That is a cool idea. Fortunately I don't have any corners since it's a straight shot from the garage into breezeway and then downstairs into basement. Another thing I like about your idea is if you have an office in basement (like I do) people could go directly there from garage without coming into the house.
