I am thinking about the ICF roofing system for my upcomming house build.  I have No Idea how much this will cost.  Im sure its alot though.  I also would love to be able to use this system on the floor under the slab.  I will be building in the Orlando, FL area, so I am looking for the most insulated option against the heat and the structural intergrity that will withstand the sometimes weekly hurricanes we get in FLorida.
Also, what kind of finish options are there on one of these types of roof?  What do you put on them?  Can you put metal shingles on it?  Spanish Tiles?  It would need to be one or the other though, regular shingles are not going on my house.  I want a roof that is strong and a shingle system with a life expectancy longer than me.  so 40 - 50 more years if im lucky.

Im pretty well informed on ICF.  So I know the house will be ICF built.  I just dont know about the roof.  I am trying to avoid having any wood at all in the structure of the house.  Have you seen the termites down here?  Geeze.   I already know how to prevent them from boring thru the foam so thats not an issue.
Any input will be helpful.  A cost per sq/ft would be awsome as well.    Like I said, I know its gonna be alot,  but is that $15 a sq/ft or $25 a sq/ft?  Would be great if it was less.

JOwens,

Please give me a call at 239-438-2670. We specialize in ICF / cast in place concrete roofs, and also offer a concrete roof finish. Here is a link to one of our sites, showing pictures of a cast in place concrete roof, over insul deck panels. The finish is alos completed in concrete with a white sealer over the top. The is just outside Key West. It is designed to withstand up to a 200mph 3 second wind gust, with nothing to blow off the top, while offering a R-33 static value, with vaulted ceilings.

I look forward to your call.

here are some the options:

insuldeck concrete hip/gable beams with concrete rafters, conventional decking and finish.

insuldeck roof with poured beams and deck, plus stepped "bermuda look" finish.

price depends on conditions such as roof engineering, complexity of roof shape, pitch, shoring height, overhangs, need for internal supports, finish etc. if you provide a set of preliminary plans/working drawings we can have our installers give you an "in-place" sf cost, including the cost for icf walls.

I worked on concrete lodges in the Utah ski resort areas. the company also had built some concrete bridges so they had all the shoring, scaffold systems and jacks. their bids were less since they didn't have to rent anything. and their crew had a lot of experience. one lodge was in the avalanche zone and required 12 inch concrete in the walls and 8 inches of concrete in the roof.

I used Amvic. Very user friendly and requires less bracing. I don't see why you can't do it for well under $15 a sqft. I am about 100 miles from Orlando if you would like to come take a look.
