Looking at various joist connection options for arxx or logix icf's I'm wondering what's the best way to go for my 5x8 joists. I'm leaning toward the steel angle iron ledger option that logix offers as one of their suggestions.

Any suggestions besides those offered by logix or arxx, or are they the way to go?

Thanks

Here is one option for the angle iron ledge:

Another option would be to pour the first wall to the bottom of where you want your joists to be.  Protect the top edge of the ICF foam with tape or formed sheet metal.  Install your timber frame joists over the top of this wall up to the inside of the outside foam.  But first, wrap the ends of the timber frame joists with a protective vapor barrier material to keep the concrete from coming into direct contact with the wood.  #30 roofing felt or that new synthetic roofing underlayment or self-adhered ice & water shield would probably work fine (see links below).  Drill through the joist and into the concrete below to set one large anchor bolt to secure the joist to the top of the wall.  Also screw large screws or lag bolts into the sides and top of the joists and leave them sticking out a few inches where they extend into the ICF cavity.  Then install your second story of ICF foam cutting out the first course of foam on the inside to fit around the timber frame joists imbedded in the wall.  Then when you pour the concrete, those screws/lags in the joists will be locked into the concrete.
