Has anyone seen the new code for attic or roof insulation? Well it is R-49... How are stick or wood roof builders going to get there???
Does this give us an advantage with the systems that are now on the market???

Use what is called an Energy Heel on the trusses, bumps the roof at the outside wall to get pink in there.
Where are you that this is code??

Okay, I'm in CA and we use this little thing called Title 24, I want to say I see 'R-30 - R-38'.
Open or Closed cell foam is really taking off, more Open than Closed mind you due to $$$ |

Im in ontario Canada r 40 is code the vast majority use cellulose in ceilings no problem getiing r 40 50 or 60 much cheaper then foam i just did my home this fall r 50 2300 sq/ft 1100 bucks |

An R49 stipulation may very well be in the 2009 IBC, however, I don't believe anyone has adopted the 2009 yet.
That said, quoting the IBC is incorrect for residential housing. Residences typically follow the IRC.
However, if EITHER of the 2009 codes say r49, I imagine many states will change that to be approriate for their particular state. Although r49 is laudable in some states(I recently kicked my house up to that in CT), 49 seems to be excessive for a temperate climate like Florida. |

I got the info from the R Value calculator online from the department of energy, also it was the BUZZ at the Builders Show in Vegas last month...
As to not needing it in Florida, heat rises and the roof is where 30% of your energy goes in a home, out of the attic...
I have a home that I built with my system (no attic) in Jupiter, Fl. with 3600 sq ft under air with 18' ceilings and the last 12 months electeric bill has averaged $125.00 a month, no gas all
electeric in South Florida...

I am not so sure that is a reliable source, Florida has their own energy code its current ceiling min is R-19, your bills are very close to mine with a 3,000 sq.ft. house $110.00 avg & 16 ft.vaults.
Florida requires more cooling than heating so the higher R-value at roof/ceiling is not so critical |
