We want to put some cat6 Ethernet, and some rg6 tv cable in the walls before our contractor drywalls the space.
What depth do we need to install the cat6 and rg6 at? I can find references of 1.5" for romex, but nothing for Ethernet, phone, tv etc.
If it matters, I'm in Canada.
Thanks in advance! |

Geergirl, That 1.5" depth requirement for Romex applies to anything you bury behind the drywall that would be harmed if it were penetrated by a drywall screw. So burying all cable at least 1.5" deep is the right way to do it. And, drywallers will miss your plastic ties often enough that you can't get away with a shallower depth on the assumption that you are routing cable out of the way of drywall anchors. |

+1, put it all the way back against the CC, foam the groove and trim the excess after it cures... |

To install our romex, cat-6 and rg6 I used a circular saw to cut the slots in the foam. I took an old 24 tooth blade and bent the 2nd and 3rd teeth oppposite directions that left 8 teeth straight, 8 teeth to right and 8 teeth to left, bending the teeth about 3/16ths to the side. I had an anvil in the garage and just tap the teeth with a hammer, the blade remains balanced and cuts the slot extremely fast, even through the plastic strips on our Fox blocks. Easy to adjust depth with the circular saw, I was able to set the saw at full depth and still left clearance to the concrete. It won't go all the way into corners corners so I just went up through the plate with a long drill bit. Chalked lines around basement and cut all the grooves in just a little bit of time. |

An old vinyl siding trick is to put the blade in back words, less grab when you hit the webs. |
