I'm in the planning stage of building a sips home. I thought Anderson 400 series windows were a no brainer but my builder is pushing Kohler (Kohltech?) triple glazed kryptonite filled windows very hard.

My quick search of the NFRC website seems to indicate that the two companies windows have fairly similar ratings.
Personally I have a hard time with the asthetics of vinyl (on the inside) windows and want the Andersons, but my builder is an EnergyStar builder and claims I'll pay a high price (in efficiency), and he hasn't been wrong yet.

Has anyone out there had any expearience with Kohler windows? They seem expensive, too.

Thanks

Kohler windows are very nice, I know several builders who have used them but the payback is not there. The difference between good quality windows is not a lot in enegry savings and would be more of a marketing debate than anything else. As far as your contractor being an energy star builder that means he uses good quality energy efficent products that make a home sell for a higher price and higher profit. Call your local Anderson dealer and Kohler and make them prove who is better.
Good luck on house, Sammy
