Hi--thinking of doing a story and 1/2 project with 4x12 sips vertically around the outside and 11 1/2 bci up to a ridge beam for the roof.  Second story floor would be 2x6 t&g over a post and beam structure.  I'm wondering how much harder the 12 footers are to work with for a small DIY crew.  Any feedback would be welcome.

randomhitz,

No problemo with 4 x 12 SIPs. We tilt up 4 x 16, 18, 20, 22, 24 without the use of mechanical assistance. It is nice to have rolling scafflod on the job for anything 12 foot and greater verses working off ladders. For the taller SIPs, put a couple of blocks at the outside of the building so the bottom of the panel doesn't kick out when you tilt it up. There's another trick to hold the bottom of the panel from kicking out if it's a slab situation. You shouldn't have a problem with the bottom of the panel kicking out with a 12 foot high panel.
