Just got my 1st estimate and for a simple 3,800 sq feet, 8ft plate, 6 inch walls with 8 inch ceiling house It was almost 90k.  Hoping that the other bids might be less otherwise its sticks and foam.   Anyone have comparable prices?  BTW I am in AZ.

Austennn,

Since you are in AZ, I have a suggestion that might save you some money in building your home.  E-mail me:  Alton at Auburn dot Edu.  Use the @ symbol for "at" and period for "dot"

i would recommend you try sip walls and a conventional truss roof. unless you live in an extreme cold climate i just dont see the payoff
for an expensive sip roof.

Not considering a SIP roof as a blanket statement seems rather questionable to me.  On what basis is it more expensive?  I don't think this takes into account the differences roof complexity makes on cost, or really gives credit for the advantages of a SIP roof.  With a SIP roof you can gain almost all the space under the roof, with standard trusses all this space is wasted.  If you are trying to create a tight building envelope it seems strange to ignore the area most in need of improvement.  You can foam in under the roof but It does not appear that is cheaper especially when you consider that you cannot use it as living space (with the trusses).  It also seems that adding foam produces all kinds of quality control issues.

I personally would not consider SIP walls without a SIP roof any more than I would consider a SIP house with leaky low grade windows.
