Can anyone offer feedback on Insulspan or Suretight as SIPS providers.  Our perspective contractor will be using one these for the panels for our 1500 sq/feet addition.  Also, any recommendations for windows?  We're leaning toward B.F. Rich.

tadbit1;

6 months ago I was an installation consultant on a project that was supplied by Suretight, they did an excellent job!

I have installed three SureTight packages. Each time the packages were well cut and fit together nicely. I did have a post installation technical support issue on the last package however. The local code official wanted a written/signed statement from the manufacturer describing the deflection he saw in the roof. He shut down the job until receiving that letter. It took two weeks with significant arm twisting to get that letter from SureTight. My gut feeling is that they were nervous to put something in writing. It cost me big time not only in raw dollars with a RTFL idle onsite, but in customer confidence as well. I cannot quantify that cost. Since then, I've been using Insulspan RTA packages. Have one in process now. The packages fit together flawlessly AND I get nothing short of top notch support from my salesman and from the engineering staff. Insulspan does little things like chamfer the edges of the LVL splines to allow panels to slide together with ease. It sure beats wrestling roof panels to make them slip together. I also like the detail on their panel layout drawings (personal preference maybe?) Another positive about Insulspan is that they are not shy to point out bone headed mistakes I am "about" to make. They give excellent guidance and suggestions and are truly interested in "Mutual Success". I like that very much. OH. One more thing. Building custom homes, we make a LOT of changes. They have a lot of patience and understanding.

To give SureTight a little defense, they were suffering through some growing pains at the time. Perhaps they adapted to the load and are more attentive to post sales needs now?

Hope this helps.

I've been building with SIPs for 20 years and have tried various companies during this time. I have also had to troubleshoot various issues over time. My vote is for Suretight because of the sealing system they use vs. the Insulspan standard. At one time or another I have had issues with all vendors, including Insulspan and not just for SIPs. When a problem was uncovered, Suretight always stepped up with quick solutions.

For windows I would recommend Serious Windows.  They have both vinyl and fiberglass windows available with a wide range of price and performance levels.
How can we enrich our lives today, while conserving and protecting our natural resources for tomorrow?

I've been building with SIPS since 1991. I have dealt with most of the companies in the northeast. SureTight has been the most helpful and by far the most accurate with their Cad drawings and fabricating services of any company I have used.
They have an advantage now over the other EPS panels.They have completed the structural testing and are now using BASF Neopor cores. The "R" value is 21% more than 1 lb. EPS.
They always address any issues and offer great support when needed.
