After building what I consider to be close to my dream home in 2009, we are planning on selling it. We constructed with SIPs, triple pane Fibertec windows and had a masonry heater built, r50+ cellulose insulation in attic. The house is a craftsman style rancher/bungalow situated on 89 acres of which 70-75 are wooded (hardwoods) which is ideal for the masonry heater. We went all out on this house unlike what we have had before, e.g. soapstone counters, bamboo floors, two kitchen pantries, year round sunroom, electric panel hooked up to failover to generator....and now we are selling, bummer. Reasons are career change/move that was not in the plans last year and unfortunately it means we will not enjoy what we built.

If anyone is looking for a nice house in Eastern Ontario, send me a note. It's about 50 minutes to Ottawa or 50 minutes to Montreal's West Island. We don't think we will build again, I like the process but DW hates it (we have built the last two homes we owned). So we'll be looking for hopefully something well constructed in our new area that will come close to what we are seeking (as 'green'/efficient as possible).

Kyle, It would be nice if you could post some photos, or a photo link, so that people could actually see your home. It's my understanding that there are about 60,000 visits to this site each month. That could get you some good exposure.

Good luck with your new career! Maybe you'll change your mind about building again if you can't find exactly what you want in the existing new home, or resale, market. BTW, what is the Canadian housing market like, in comparison to that in the US? Obviously, the values in the resale, and existing new, homes here have seriously curtailed new construction. Having said that, most of the new homes that are being built are incorporating energy efficient, sustainable, (aka "green") building products to one degree or the other.
