After four wonderful, totally enjoyable years in my mountain SIP home, my wife and I started discussing doing some traveling, something we have always dreamed of doing. Unfortunately, we soon came to the conclusion that to do the traveling we would like to do, it wasn’t possible to travel the way we wanted to do and keep the house. So, after much consternation and discussion, it came down to either not travel, or to sell the house, and we deciding to follow our dreams. So now, our dream home can be your dream home. Below are some of the attributes of our home.

The 4436 sq/ft (2976 sq/ft heated) house is situated right at the top of the hill on .7 acres near Grand Lake, Colorado, with 360 degree panoramic views of Shadow Mountain Lake, snow capped Mountains, Arapaho Recreation Area, Rocky Mountain National Park, the continental divide and the Colorado River below in the valley. Watching the pelicans doing precision maneuvers in the sky, moose and elk wandering through the area and listening to the Colorado River from the decks is very peaceful. Enjoy beautiful balmy summers with an average of 300 sunny days a year, three lakes to choose from for sailing, boating or fishing, all within about 5 miles. Grand Lake Village is just down the road for that authentic mountain village experience. Grand Lake also boasts one of the highest altitude 18 hole golf courses in the United States. The Arapahoe Recreation Area is within a couple of miles for hiking, camping, biking, quads and off-roading. Rocky Mountain National Park is about 5 miles away with the highest altitude continuous highway in the United States and going over to Estes Park. Grand Lake is also known as the Snowmobile Capital of the World with over 300 miles of snowmobile trails near Grand Lake. Winter brings on a whole new realm of activities. Ice fishing on the lakes, cross country skiing at the golf course, snowshoeing in the Rocky Mountain National Park and the Arapaho Recreation Area, easy beginner downhill skiing at Sol Vista (15 mile drive) and for the more advanced skier, Winter Park is just 33 miles away.  See pictures of our home at http://www.grandcountysips.com/Pictures.html   The house is available furnished as shown in the pictures.

Below are some highlights:
1. 4 bedrooms or 3 bedrooms and exercise room (with computerized treadmill and 5 station weight machine).
2. Master suite upstairs (256 sq/ft bedroom, 190 sq/ft walk-in closet, 145 sq/ft bathroom with large (two person) tub, separate shower and laundry)
3. Beautiful view of Shadow Mountain Lake from master bedroom

5. Cathedral ceiling in loft.
6. 3 baths (one on each floor)
7. 300 sq/ft main deck from dining room on main floor
8. Good views of the mountains, Arapaho Recreation area, Colorado River and the valley.
9. Two bedrooms on main floor, one with separate entrance to bath

While it's true that many of the pine trees were afflicted with the pine bark beetles, it only affected the larger, older trees. Now that the dead trees are starting to fall, with little competition from the bigger, older trees, the younger trees are really taking off. In many areas the aspen have taken a strong hold. It's also surprising the vistas that have opened up after the loss of the older trees. It's amazing to watch nature heal itself.

There is that big fire over in Boulder County at the moment. And that is not beetle related.

I know in Summit County it is really bad, a tinderbox just waiting to go up.

They have done some clearing but a tiny percentage.

I had a look at a show house in Breckenridge a few months back. Mega Mcmansion. Completely surrounded by trees, what are they thinking of?

Como,

You're absolutly right. I understand the attraction of living in the forest surrounded by a forest, but the reality is you need to be prepared for the possibility of disaster. Just as some areas need to be prepared for tornadoes, earthquakes of hurricanes, no matter where you live, you have to be prepared for the vagaries of nature. This mornings Denver Post (Saturday, Sept. 11th) had a picture on the front page demonstrating the benifits of a defensible space. You can see it at http://extras.mnginteractive.com/live/media/site36/2010/0911/20100911_020012_20100911.pdf
