I have a low slope (2:12! - I didn't design it) SIP roof clad in standing seam metal.   The SIPs are OSB/PolyU.  I'm in Quebec and we typically get a 2-5 foot snow-pack every winter.  Any thoughts on attaching snow or ice guards to reduce the chunks of  snow and ice calving off the eaves in the Spring?

I have a feeling that the creeping snow-pack would just tear any screws right out of the OSB and rip the metal roof to shreds while it's at it.

Some snow guards attach to the standing seams, but assuming the standing seam is strong enough, would it potentially just rip the whole metal panel off the OSB deck?

If the metal panel and the screws through to the OSB deck held, would there be any risk to the SIP's integrity?  Could the shear force delam the OSB from the foam?

Thanks!

I Maceo, i understand your problem, we manufacture SIP's in Quebec, so i understand your problem, but you have a simple solution wich will protect the integrity of your panel: Your structural panel is probably not structural, that means that you should have a sub structure under your panel, and there is where you should reach to attach your snow guard, using sips nails or one that has a néoprene guard on it. Like that your sip's will not have danger of structural damage, it shore gone need a small receipe to how to install the screw so it doesn't bend with time and create holes.

You can call me so we could see with the location of yor sub structure it could be done.
