How many inches of concrete (ICF walls) are needed to stop rounds fire from handguns and high powered rifles?
Would AAC Blocks better serve the purpose?

Are there manufacturers of SIP interior wall panels that are essentially bulletproof as well; i.e,, fiberglass panels?

If I am considering building something new, might as well plan for the day when the SHTF - - don't you think?  When the Grid goes down, there will be ill-prepared Zombies coming from everywhere - - don'tcha know?!

P.S. A major part of my interest too - - is to build a ZED house and determine if it is possible to live comfortably off the grid.

Our major threats include:  Hyperinflation followed by a Greater Depression and the collapse of society; Terrorism;  Someone, or something - - takes down the Power Grid, like Cyber-Terrorists, foreign and domestic; Solar storms on the Sun; an EMI take-down; chemical and biological agents released; etc., etc.  (I'm sure you all know by now that it was the U.S. and Isreal that took down Iran's nuclear computers for some length of time.  The Cyber War has begun, and the Power Grid is a high value target.

Well 8 inches of concrete will definitely stop small arms fire up to 50 cal. Concrete block not so much. If the bad guys have a LAW or AT4 2, you might be in trouble.
You probably want a light deck roof in case they start lobbing mortars. I doubt the zombies or biker gangs will have anything bigger then 81 mm mortars so 10-12 “ of concrete should be fine overhead.
ICF walls are out. The foam is hard to ignite under normal circumstances but a thermite grenade or a flame thrower would do it.
Gas and diesel fuel go bad eventually, but propane lasts for decades, so you probably want a 30,000 gallon underground propane tank to run your generator and automated flamethrowers. For perimeter defense, you could buy a few shipping containers of mines from the Italians. I would get a mix of toe poppers and bouncing betties, maybe a couple of hundred anti tank mines for the roads and other high speed avenues of approach
You can occasionally find used M113 tracked vehicles, so that takes care of basic transportation. I would get one with the 50 cal mounts as that makes a nice deterrent.
Or you could not buy a house and spend your time finding out who really killed KFK.

Good news. You can sleep easier at night knowing that 6" is more than enough to stop 7.62 X 39 mm ball and steel core rounds, and ICF walls perform better than plain concrete of the same thickness.

How about an earthshship?

A berm house would negate 3 sides.

Windows could be tricky.

I don't think fiberglass sips will stop a bullet, but you can laminate Kevlar fabric into any SIP

I favour SIP's but for this application I think I would go with ICF.

Might up the reinforcement.
