Hi all, new to the forum but not new to construction. I have been in construction all my life and now at the age of 40 looking to build (GC) my own passive (or very close to it hopefully) home. I currently run an electrical contracting company in the Indy area that the majority of our work is HVAC controls related like big hospitals, schools, and govt buildings.

Welcome Wes! I'm just south of you, Louisville. Looking to build in a couple years myself something that is durable, long-lasting, and low energy.

Agreed James our local electrical utility has already announced rate increases between 12-25% within the next 5 years. Just starting here and curious SIP's roof vs Rafter and spray foam?

wes.frink - I'm not sure. I hear truss roof w/ blown in fiberglass or cellulose is the way to go for a high R-value roof. SIP's roofs costs more but are stronger against tornado's; which our area does experience. Costs are a concern, SIP's are more expensive. I'm not sure yet.

What are you thinking?
