Hello all,
New member here.
An old question but still relevant, can anyone recommend a steel SIP supplier in CA or neighboring state? I've been searching around the net but have not found anyone manufacturing residential steel SIPs in CA. Or alternatively, a rough idea of shipping costs from further afield?
It's for a new home I'm designing. To be located in the Sierra Foothills, approx 2000 - 2400 sf. I'm only interested in steel. Due to our persistent drought (= high fire danger, high insurance costs and termites) wood SIPs are not an option.
Thanks in advance.
D

The only steel SIP plants that I know of are located in the southeast (Georgia, Florida).
Most SIPs are going to be OSB with EPS and a few will be OSB with polyurethane cores.
Have you looked into ICF? It's fire rated for 2-4 hours and would be much stronger than any steel or wood SIP structure. They are also termite resistant.

Their are several metal skin panel manufacturers closer than Georgia. However, none that I know of have title 24 compliance. Hence, if a metal skin SIP is the only one you'll consider, You may have a very long wait. Al |

Ok, I realize that I'm a little late to this party, and it's been
awhile since I posted here.....Having said that I'd like to add
an FYI to the proceedings here....In addition to the California
Title 24 Energy code there is something called "HCD Title 25"
(HCD = Housing and Community Development} This is State
Agency that inspects and licenses ALL manufactured Housing
systems that involve a closed wall system, whether it is a
turnkey modular home, or a closed panels (SIP) ...There is an
approval and inspection process, and every panel has to have
an HCD sticker...Needless to say this adds some costs but since
building costs are high in California anyway, so are energy costs
so, all things considered, SIPs still pencil for many projects (I'll
not get into a sales pitch here)......Another important issue is
the engineering, testing, and reports necessary to meet seismic zone requirements......As for The very real concerns about the fire danger in California...Those issues have been addressed to
the satisfaction of homebuyers who've built SIP homes in those
areas, we're also talking about some pretty stringent code
requirements......In any event, I hope that helps, I'll be happy to
reply to any comments or questions in connection with any of
this either online or via private messaging... |

I would like a PM as well Chris with that information. I am currently working on building a SIP home in southern Nevada and have received one quote from Insulspan and awaiting one from Premiere. The more I read on the metal SIPs the more I like them. Any info is appreciated. |
