a real atvantage with the metal skin on a mono sloped roof is the panels are the finished roof or can be covered

Wait, the seams aren't an issue?

Does a metal SIP roof have to have an internal finish, or would bare metal suffice? Again, looking for super cost efficiency here.

If you look at the previous posted photos you can see a self stick TPO tape on seams
code still requires 1/2" drywall
however the overhangs are already factory painted and the shadowline profile looks very much like a soffit panel

About economy, I have about 2000 square feet of uncovered steel SIP panels on exterior walls at my house and garage, on the back side facing away from the street. I just caulked the seams and the joint where they meet the track. It's been four years and they look just like they did when I erected them, no water infiltration, nothing. Don't try that with OSB. I am slowly covering areas with a more cosmetic finish as time and money allows. But if worked into the design stage with color and texture choices, steel SIPs could stand as a finished product.

I'd be careful with the R value of any air space (or maybe even vinyl siding) - it assumes that the space is sealed and don't allow air to convect through it. On the other hand, a surface and an air gap + air flow helps with reducing heat gain from the sun - even if it doesn't have an R value.

Jon, I'm not sure what you're referencing in this post, but I do like the thought. Are you implying siding with an air gap behind it and a way for the air to convect out is effective and inexpensive? Half the climates you need do something similar anyway for summertime moisture condensation, right?

Someone asked on a PM I can't seem to reach with this web browser if I'd decided on metal or OSB SIPs. Everything right now is really just research. Design will be general until location, both climate wise and specific lot are chosen. I'm just caching the trade offs. Plus there's a ton more to my ideas I'm still working on. I'm seeing a lot of repeat offenders here. I'm sure I'll see you again in other posts.

We can manufacture EZ SIPS for your project from just $2.20 / square foot. Local to your jobsite so freight will be minimal. www.structuralinsulatedpanels.com

$2.20 a sq?

Not sure where you went to school, but the website says $90 for a 4x8 eps which is $2.81 not 2.20 that's without the framing, sheathing & labor to assemble. Which must add at least a $1 a sq

all the jack studs & joint studs are thermal bridges not present in a sips.

I can get you several SIPS manufacturers with ready to go panels for $3.75, that's less money less time than EZ sips

It appears you only sell foam blocks/sheets (which depend on perfectly straight wood studs). It seems like quite a stretch to call your actual product structural let alone a SIP. Foam itself is not structural and once you've broken it up jambing it between crooked studs I'm not sure its even that great of insulation. I priced out (3) 94.5"x14.5"x3.5" blocks of foam and (1) 1.5" thick 4'x8' sheet of foam and I come up with $38 and I'm still not interested in this method.

I don't consider studs with foam as SIPs?, they are simply studs with foam, if you have a patent pending on it , it may be a while , I really don't see the revelation here? like reinventing the wheel.

If you shop freight rates a load costs about $1 a mile, so does that make sense for Ky, which I think will get your best deal

Sorry to pick up from an old post. I have another metal SIPs question. Anyone know the emissivity of the metal SIPs? Can it be improved?

Again, I am just at a collecting info stage. I am not in the market as of now, but I am noticing who gives the advice for the future.

it would depend on the color and roof slope white would be the best, and if you left the panel uncovered
