Hi everyone,
I am new to the forum and it is very knowledgable to read most of the posts. I wanted to get into this business a few years ago, but couldn't find relative job to begin with, due to the economic state (SW Florida). In a matter of last year I have worked for 4 different companies doing different jobs related to building construction but not quite (4 months as an apprentice electrician in the union (2 companies), 2 months at the granite shop, still part-time in the Tool Rental Dept of the Home Depot). Finally, half a year ago I have got hired to work as an intern for the great local builder and am so greatful. The push is on.
I am myself carrying a degrre in BS in Technical Education as the evaluation of my diploma says, (my Human Engineering degree I obtained at the Agricultural University in Ukraine).
I just wanted to hear anybodies advise as where can I find posts on the forum, forums on the website or information at all, which would help me more efficiently to learn all the basic aspects of the business. I would say, I just need help in beginning of my learning processs (terminology, basics,...) becide the practical part that I get at work.

Thank you in advance,
Sasha

There are lots of good carpenters who have no idea how to run a business, so the best advice I can give you to learn the business of building is to get a business education. Investigate the schools - 2 year, 4 year in your area to see what they offer. A course designed around entrepeneurs or small business would be best. There are also construction educational offerings which might include business courses (I don't know). If you're interested in learning carpentry, there are also trade school offerings for that.

For websites, both Fine Homebuilding and Journal of Light Construction have online "forums" where you can get tips and find discussions on all aspects of building. Building Science Corporation has a website where you can find articles about all aspects of energy efficient building.
