My software shows losses from 3 to 15Kbtu depending on type. I had a load on an old farmhouse once where occupant insisted on employing her 3 wood burning fireplaces (masonry, not modern) I told her geo couldn't help (4 ton load before we got to the rest of the house). One of my colleagues sold her something, I hope it works for her. J |

Thanks for the feedback. I have the ACCA manual J book, but not a software program. I'll see if the book can help me out. If not, I might start looking into software - I don't think that $49 package will really help me for this scenario will it? My feeling is that we are losing quite a bit, but it's just a feeling, I wasn't really sure how to put numbers to that. Oh, and the price did include a full liner. |

If it's direct vent, Ona, I'd expect 3-5K loss, my software only has 3 choices yours would be better to best. J |

To update, installing contractor has completed an operational survey that has been shared with me, and we had some follow up questions. I also suggested to a Research Products Coporate Trainer at a vendor fair that I may know of an opportunity for them to show their commitment to backing their new label. I hope to hear from their geo guru, when he gets back to Madison. I'll keep you posted. J |

The Research Products corporate tech allowed me to pass his name and e-mail address to the author of this thread. He expressed an interest in elevating the Hydro name in the industry. Hopefully he can start by helping our friend here. J |

My contractor is working with HD to come up with a solution to remedy this situation. It appears they are amicable to a replacement or anything else to my satisfaction. I will keep everyone posted as the process unfolds.

Ken, Please do, if the new owners of HD show that sort of commitment to customer satisfaction, we all would like to know. J |

Joe, supposedly we are in the process of removal of the system and a refund. We discussed replacements but came to the conclusion this would be the best route for both parties. I'll let you know if the above route actully happens or if there are any changes.

Just wanted to let everyone know that Hydro Delta stepped up and removed the unit from my home and provided a full refund for the unit. They gave my contractor the option of replacing with another unit but he opted to use a different mfg. The other unit was installed the other day and the performance is night and day. To say the least it doesn't appear that the units size was the culprit but its underperformance due to whatever reason.
I want to thank everyone that expressed their expertise and opinions throughout the whole process. I couldn't have gotten the final outcome without all of your help and guidance!
It should be noted that although I didn't put in another Hydro Delta unit, they stepped up to the plate and admitted that there was something wrong. Everything isn't always perfect but its the way that you handle the bad issues that says something about you. For the way they handled this issue, I would like to commend them on.
Thanks Again to everyone,
Ken |

Ken E-mailed me today with this great news and I was so pleased at the outcome. I think credit goes to Ken first for accepting that his contractor could do things right and still have so many problems. I'm glad you stuck with your contractor Ken, I know both of you were getting frustrated with the situation. Kens installer obviously accepted some of the responsibility to reach resolution even though the equipment clearly was the source of many problems. When I tell folks that installer matters more than brand, this is a great example of how true that can be. Research Products; the Aprilaire people (and new owners of Hydro) deserve extremely high praise for accepting responsibility (thousands of dollars) for an appliance that was manufactured and sold prior to their purchase of HD. I'll look forward to seeing how they handle HD. Meanwhile anyone selecting humidifiers, air cleaners, central de-humidifiers etc. should seek out the products of a company this dedicated to satisfaction. joe |

I have had similar outstanding interactions with Research Products.
Back when RP was developing their tstats that interface to computer control (AprilAire Model 8870 "Communicating Thermostats" - http://www.aprilaire.com/index.php?znfAction=ProductDetails&category=23&item=8870 ), I did their field testing program for them for the residential side of the testing program.
Based on the above notes from Joe and Ken, it appears that nothing has changed at RP - it's leaders and executives clearly understand that relationships count. My efforts with RP were a privilege to work with them.
Best regards,
Bill |
