Better plan....design it right, don't water it

Agreed - don't design so that water is routinely needed. I was thinking along the lines of once-in-10-year droughts.

The drip irrigation, placed about a foot or so, above the loops could help lower the soil temps - esp. in late summer after heat has been pumped into the ground all season. Has anyone done this? Also, thought of wetting the soil to compact it as I'm backfilling over the pipe.

One last technical question. I realize the differences in amount of pipe need for a particular system (heat loss/gain, soil characteristics, etc.) but I'm getting different quotes on amount of slinky per foot of trench. Is seems that 10' of pipe (slinky) per 1' of trench is the norm, correct?

We do six. Overall amount of pipe matters more than ft/ft.
Both DX systems I've been involved with include soaker hoses in installation instructions.
Point is paying for metered water or paying to pump water would be an unfortunate trade for a little extra loop.
