Wow Chris you've been full of surprises on this one. Congratulations on a phenomenally innovative SIPS project. I'll certainly be interested in your results. What is the actual thickness of Magboard you are using?
each side is approximately 9/16" wwith the foam core the overall SIP is 2" thick>

Alton;
These floor sheathing SIPs were supplied by owner and came from Magnum Building Products, were laminated in Orlando.
Problem: 4 x 8 x 2" thick weighs 200 lb per sheet, the floor sheathing is no longer a 2 man job it is a 4 man operation

Wow, yeah that's a lot of weight. Was that enough to enter into the floor joist load calcs? |

Matt;
The weight per sq. ft. of material is 6.25#
This job is way over designed, the Joist-Rite joist are a 12" x 14 ga. x 3" wide@ 16" oc, at the maximum spans will support 15# dead load and 125# live load, this is a commercial loading |

With that kind of weight I guess I'm no longer expecting a positive review. They could have used Fortocrete concrete flooring at only 4.7 psf. It is funny to be calling Fortocrete the lightweight alternative. I doubt a 7/8" EPS foam provides significant insulation especially if gaps every 4 or 8 feet. I think fortocrete is tongue & groove. |

Chris,
Does this company make thicker SIPS than the ones you used? Would this type of panel be structural as used in a wall or flat roof? Is this company shipping panels to other states? Would the MgO skin meet the fire resistance as required by the code? |

Alton;
I don't believe they have the capabilty for thicker SIPs nor the certifications for a structural panel.
From my observations the panels cannot adequately span over 2 ft., skins are too brittle
I do beleive they have the fire testing but not a certfication, Their contact info was on a previous post or you could contact MagDaddy who says they have the technology
so far @ 200 lbs for a 4 x 8 sheet, they are way too heavy to handle, I hope it is my last experience with them |

My concern is two fold. Firstly, I don't think that fan has the oomph to do the job in that great room. Secondly, it just LOOKS too small in there. Folks on my build will tell you there is nothing I hate more than a change order, once something is done, but I'd do it for that fan. The BigAss fan continues to be one of the major WOW factors on my build. I'll try to remember to get an image today. |
