I am in the planning/getting building permit stage of building a 30x40x14 pole barn. Were are located in Battle Creek , Mi ( SW Michigan ). I am going to do a radiant slab, with a water heater. The building will be 1200 sf. My question is how big of a water heater? our fuel source is propane. Next is insulation, walls and cieling will be fiberglass bats walls R21 and cieling R38. The floor will just be a slab on grade what do you suggest, the floor is not within 3' of gorund water. I was thinking sand base, vapor barrier, 2" dow board, 4" concrete. Also though about digging a 2' deep trench along the outside and putting a 2" dow board on edge around the whole exterior. I am doing over kill and can I cut cost on the insulation i would like to heat all winter long say around 55. Thanks. call if you want to chat. thanks for your help.

You've got it just right, though in your climate a water heater might not be your best bet here. Perhaps... depends on the overall heat load. At 55, it's probably fine, but if you decide you want it warmer a higher efficiency heat source would *probably* meet your needs better.

Insulation is the gift that just keeps on giving; don't skimp there.
