We are building a log home in New Brunswick, Canada and where planning on using electric radiant heating through the home, but we have to rethink the budget. My plan is to use radiant heating in the living room\dining room\kitchen to heat the floor rather then the cathedral ceiling. In the bathroom and bedrooms I want to use space heaters which will be less costly and allow me to put money into a soapstone woodstove.
Could anyone give me receomendations on what type of space heater would be most effeciant. I am looking at a model that would fit on the wall.
I really liked the idea of the vent free propane space heaters such as Glow Warm that fit on a wall, they would help reduce my electric bill, but they are not approved for use in Canada. What I would like to do is find an efficient electric space heater and replace it when the vent free heaters are finally approved in Canada.

How does electric cost compare to propane in NB?
You do not want ventless heaters in a home, besides putting the usual byproducts of combustion into your living space you will suffer from the largest part thereof which is water vapor.
Consider hydronic radiant floors with European steel panel radiators in the bath and bedrooms using a ModCon propane, electric boiler or both for a dual fuel system.
Consider further a professional design and consultation before you build.

ECO-heater from Warmzone.com. I bought one of these for myself and love it. You can paint it to match your wall and it only sticks out about 1/2". 400 watts vs. 1500 for all those others you see at Walmart and Home Depot. Also doesn't dry you out and circulate dust all over. http://www.warmzone.com/eco-heater.asp
